the white and the black

*Amedeo Modigliani and Pablo Picasso, two magnificant artist who influenced modern arts in nowadays, have similar and unsimilar side between each other. One used the “love” to create his works. Another one used the “passion” to fulfill his career life. Both of them were borned in the same period of time but in every competition, the winner has only one. It seemed look like Picasso always received the glory and the wealthness. In another side, Modigliani received some important thing that Picasso hasn’t received, It is “love”.

Compare and contrast in their paintings, people already know that Picasso is the inventor of “Cubism”. But in the Modigliani’s style, he used a smoothness of shape and line more than Picasso. Even both of their works look like an animated picture more than real objects. Modigliani prefered to distort human shapes. For example, by extend their necks like African folk arts sculptor. His painting still used a smooth line, different to Picasso who always used sharp and brutal lines. Modigliani always bended his object to become the shape that he wanted. Most of his paintings, which always be a portrait of human espeacially his close friend and his lover, always have a small empty room (or space) in its frame. Unlike Modigliani, Picasso used a lot of cubic shape to adapt his real objects.

In their real life, Modigliani spent all of his life to become an artist who desired to change this world!

Picasso spent all of his life time to be an unique artist who already changed arts’ stream since he’s still breathing!

Unfortunately, Modigliani died before he can declare his chance…

Anyway, their paintings became significant effect to open new world of modern amusement arts style.

For some reason, Modigliani's paintings always remind me of my mother. Isn't that strange? My mother has eyeballs, for one thing, and doesn't have particularly long neck. Maybe we had a print of a Modigliani in the house when I was little? I'm not sure -- I only know that when I see his pictures I get a strong feeling of my mom...
