"The Host"

*In last year, 2006, South Korea launched the new monster rule via “The Host” which a story began from one U.S. civilain officer ordered Korean employee to drop the large amount of formaldehyde into the Han river – the main river in South Korea – in the year 2000. This action can cause the big problem with animals and resource in water. It can not refuse that it totally ruined animal circles by someone who was careless in the environment problem.

“The Host” reflected the carelessness of people who don’t concern in our world’s resource such as Han river. Because of this acting can create the fiece monster appears in South Korea and this animal prefers to eat human’s meat! This monster is look like a tadpole mixed with the lizard. The tadpole monster always keep living provisions to consume when it will hungry. It hangs from the ceiling like larva when it sleeps.

This movie also catchs the main theme by telling a story through one family- five family members. Grandfather, father – the leading actor of this movie who wears short blond hair, younger brother – a successful businessman, younger sister – a medal archor, daughter – who be loved by all of this family member. Then a daughter was caught by the monster to be a provision and she used a cell-phone to call back to her father. All of family tried their best to help her from the monster.

These are the a preview of this monster movie, “The Host”. The movie tries to make some conflict between two nations, the United States and South Korea. This movie can reflect the anti - American sentiments who led the birth of this monster and it is the sub-point of this movie. (pharaphase from www.npr.org, Movie Reviews by David Edelstein)

Rodin

*If we must look through and compare a work between Rodin’s monument and another well-known monuments all around the world. We can catch the unique style from Rodin. The more we look through, the more spiritual we will see.

In contrast with Rodin’s style monuments, the sculpturers always keep the correct style – the correct proportion and form - from the past thru now. We can not find any work which unique from each other because they always seem only a similarity. However, if we look back in Rodin’s sculptures or monuments, we will see a lot of different things from his work.

The “Bughers of Calais” and the “Monument to Balzac” are one of Rodin magnificant projects which always insprie the upcoming-age of artists in nowadays. The roughness texture is the first thing when we see these sculptures. It can reflect more emotion than the smoothness texture in a lot of well-known scultures. Because Rodin wanted his audiences to justice his works by this emotion. Sometime it seems to be unfinish yet but this style can be called “sculptures were clouded with controversy”. Furthermore, Rodin also made an accent in some parts of human’s figures. Such as hands, feet, or etc. We can see the human beings with exaggerate in their hands and feet. We can assume that Rodin was one of artists who didn’t follow the traditional style but he can create his significant way which can reflect all of his emotion through sculptures.

Sculptures were clouded with controversy, the roghness in the texture, non-traditional style, and overscale in proportion, these are the significant style of Rodin. His works maybe seem look like unfinished work. However, it still appears his spirit inside all of his sculptures.

Anti-Racism Monument

*Nowadays, everybody can't refuse one of major problem in this world, racism problem. White, Yellow, and Black are all of three major types of human's races. As, we can see in news on television, or newspaper. Too many people still disgust in another type of race. This problem still remains from a hundred past year until now and maybe still be in the future.

However, everyone should remind that even we have different color in outside but inside our whole body still be the same. Chromosome is a fundamental thing in our body.

Chromosome is chosen to be a concept of an anti-racism monument. I, an architect of this design, choose the X form from Chromosome and then I twist them to bend with each other. This action wants to refer to every race should come together and bend in to the one. Materials that I choose have three types. Metal, Fabric, and Acrylic are used as three main types of races - Black, Yellow, and White.

Some day in the future nearby, people will be only one in all meaning. That is No more Racism problem.

Someone in my Profession

*Sometimes we can’t exactly know every people from outside. Like this woman, at first glance I can assume that she has same age as me but actually, she almost finishs her Master Degree of Architecture Design from Columbia University. Now, she is a prospect student in Ph.D. at University of California, Berkeley soon. And now, she takes her signature to her about ten own-design architectures in Thailand. The way that she chooses is the most magnificant that I’ve ever heard.

Pat Seeumpornroj is her name. Before she come to New York, she used to be a lecturer in Chulalongkorn University for 2 years. Then, she got a scholarship from Thailand government to study untill Ph.D in the United State. She seems to be quite and sometime her student feel that she is cold. However, if we talk with her, we must change our mind from her personality. She is very nice and easy to smile.

When I asked her about her design, she always answered with broadly clear voice and a little bit smile. Actually, she’s my adviser in my thesis when I studied at Chulalongkorn University. Her skill in design that is she always concerns with an enviroment around her project. Considering a context is her first process when she search for the best solution for her architecture especially natural resources, tree. Her building must not harm with tree. Then, she will find the dot in rhe plane to draw the line from step to step. From two dimensions becomes three dimensions. However, the first considering thing is contexts.
Pat also gave her idea to me in one conflict between architect and interior designer that “Why Architect always get a credit to create its shell more than interia architect?” and maybe I should use her own words to say “I think these criteria can’t separate from each other. We should mix them all together. We should design the architecture which respond to human’s need.”

Polar Opposite

*“A Wild Sheep Chase”, author Murakami always uses “Polar Opposite” in this fiction. As we already know what Polar means, this world has two polars that are North and South polar which are totally in the opposite side of each other. We can use this phrase to compare two things which absolutely separate or different to each other. Then we can find these style when we read in this novel. Sometime we can meet these in one to next episode, sometime in next chapter, sometime in next pharagraph, and sometime also in the next line.

Murakami also uses the randomness theory to write his novel. In chapter to chapter, he always write as the thing that he wants it to be. We can assume from the first chapter in the first episode that he mentions about the woman’s funeral. In this chapter, it has a lot of detail to make the audience to convince by his story. However, it seems to be no more continuing story after that. He absolutely changes his topic to describe in the man’s life in chapter two – espeacially in his marriage problem. These style can be assume to be the Polar Opposite too. Because Murakami try to make a fragment in his novel. To separate it into an opposite side.

In the emotion of A Wild Sheep Chase, Murakami also plays with audiences’ mind. We can find two major emotion in his novel. First, it is the adventure theme which we can see a lot of roles in this fiction are explain by exciting tone. Such as, when the Secretary comes into the man’s office. It seems to be an exaggerate explanation from the real man’s body. The another theme is boredom. Sometime Murakami tries to give audiences too many details to make people feel deeply believe in this boredom situation.

The Polar Opposite is on of the most significant style which is very impress an audience to read “A Wild Sheep Chase”. Furthermore, this style can motivate an audience’s energy to pay attention in his novel.

Ma Jolie and Man with Guitar

*“Ma Jolie” means My love. As we know Picasso is a very famous artist for this modern era and he still famous in women and a lot of Picasso’s works always refer to women. We can assume that his love passion is an energy to lift him up. Like this painting, Ma Jolie, has some parts of woman body which are seperated from each other and we can find some element that can be one part of guitar too. Not only human parts and guitar’s neck, Picasso also used some element into this painting. For example, a wine glass, text, and also the work’s title but the boundaries are unclear. Ma Jolie has a lot of lines that seem like crystalized shape and its color is monochrome which looks like metalic element more than ordinary painting. Because of the way he used color, this painting looks like three-dimension by it own color, the metalic color.

“Man with a Guitar” from Georges Braques. This painting looks very similar with “Ma Jolie” because it used the same way to produce his painting. A lot of lines that seem like crystalized shape used to separate the boundaries of human parts. Metalic color also appear in this painting. Same stlye and same age, then we can say that this two artists inspired each other. But one different thing between two painting is in this Braque’s painting, it’s clearer than Picasso’s painting. We can figure out there has one man who hold his guitar standing in this frame. We can realize where his head, his body, his hand, and also his guitar are. This is one big different point from Ma Jolie.
These two paintings seem to be difficult to understand the meaning of their own because these two magnificant artists of this modern era – Picasso and Braque – want their audience to find the meaning by themselves. This looks like the door to open in a new dimension for history of art.
